Alfonso L. Tejada, Architect/Urban Designer, “plein air” artist,
sketching and watercolour painting Instructor, trained in Mexico and Canada,
lives and works in Vancouver. His approach to painting follows two traditional methods: ”a
la prima” (direct watercolour), and drawing and sketching (ink, pen and conte
crayon), both of which are important tools of reference when painting in “plein
air”.
An advocate and promoter of plein air workshops and events; he is a
co-founder of the annual Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival’s “plein air”
sessions and of The Harmony Festival’s “plein air” competition in West
Vancouver (2006-2016). Along with his local pursuits in the arts, he was second
vice-president and a public relations member on the board of the Canadian
Federation of Artists from 2009-2015.Organizer of the International
invitational watercolour biennale with the Federation of Canadian ARTSISTS
2013. Alfonso is actively involved in international exhibitions of “plein air”
painting in Spain, Portugal and Italy. He annually leads workshops in Mexico
and Italy and participates in numerous invitational international events. He has been an instructor of painting and
sketching at the Music Box in West Vancouver for the past many years.
Alfonso is
also the FabrianoInAcquarello Canadian representative in charge of curating and
organizing the participation of Canadian artists in the annual international
watercolour exhibition held in Fabriano, Italy. And currently organizer of the 1st Int.
IWSCanada Watercolour Biennale 2016. He is also the head of the IWSCANADA and
member of the IWS Global Board of Directors (2016-2017) Advisory Committee.
